For a little history behind the flag, The very first 1st Navy Jack flag originated from the thoughts of Commodore Hopkins in 1775. It has thirteen aternating red and white stripes representing the 13 original colonies with an uncoiled rattlesnake and the moto"Don't Tread On Me". The rattle snake was a symbol of resistance in Colonial America to the British. At the present time all of the United States Navy ships have been flying the 1st Navy Jack flag since September 11, 2002 during this Global War on Terrorism.
